Hands Up for Syria.

Last night I had the pleasure of attending an event in Shoreditch called 'Hands Up for Syria'. The event was raising money for Syria, through the UK charity, Syria Relief.

There was both a silent and live auction with a wonderful selection of goodies.  Some of the items teasing my student budget were original watercolour images (by artist George Butler), exotic trips, VB handbags, Wimbledon tickets, jewelry, (the list goes on). We ate delicious Middle Eastern cuisine (my favourite!), and drank tasty cocktails courtesy of the Rum Runners. After the auctions, guests were entertained by a DJ. We ended the night with sweet mint tea before catching the tube home.

As the death toll in Syria reaches 70, 000, there is no doubt in my mind this is a cause worth raising a fuss about. We heard first hand accounts of the horrors taking place in Syria, and I commend this group of young people for raising awareness to a civil war that until recently was being swept under the carpet.

Sarah won a tea set in the raffle...that she then had to carry home.

This idea started as 'The Syrian Supper Club', a dinner amongst friends, with the idea of raising a few pounds for the cause. Through the efforts of this crew, it has snowballed into a successful large scale charity event, which I hope I can support again in the future.
